Very unique find! A note comes with this book reads---this book came from the personal library of Edward P. Allis, founder of the Edward P Allis Company and pre-cursor to Allis-Chalmers. The book was acquired from a used book dealer in the Milwaukee area along with one other with a different title. The book contains a stamp on the inside cover "Edw P. Allis Milwaukee" along with his personal signature (Mr. EP Allis, Milwaukee" on the next page. As books were rare at the time, he undoubtedly placed the stamp and signature to mark them as his personal property. The signature in the book are in pencil, ensuring that they were hand signed and not stamped. The book is an 1878 edition of Ralph Waldo Emerson's Society and Solitude and as such is valuable in its own right. The book is in excellent condition with light wear and a tight binding. Comes with a photocopy of a land deed signed by Mr. Allis with a matching signature in the book, further proving it's authenticity. Truly a one-of-a kind collectable for the true Allis-Chalmers collector!
