All local buyers must complete a NICS background check when picking up firearms at Girard Auction. Firearms may be picked up immediately after purchase if the buyer passes the background check and is 21 years of age or older—no waiting period is required in this case. Under new federal regulations, buyers under the age of 21 are subject to an automatic three-day waiting period before taking possession of a firearm. Curio & Relic (C&R) licenses will be accepted for applicable firearms. South Dakota residents with a valid Concealed Carry Permit may use their permit as proof of purchase; however, a 4473 form must still be completed. Buyers must be at least 21 years old to purchase a handgun and 18 years old to purchase a long gun. All firearms must be paid for in full before a NICS background check is conducted. If a buyer fails the background check, the firearm will be resold in the next scheduled firearms auction, and regular commissions will apply. A background check is required for all firearms unless specifically stated otherwise in the item description.

Non–South Dakota residents are welcome to purchase any firearm. Long guns (rifles and shotguns) may be picked up in Wakonda, and all buyers must complete a NICS background check unless they possess a valid FFL license. Handguns, however, must be shipped to an FFL dealer in the buyer’s home state for transfer, unless the buyer holds an FFL. Federal law prohibits us from transferring a handgun directly to an out-of-state resident—non-South Dakota concealed carry permits do not apply to this requirement. All pistols and revolvers are shipped via UPS Next Day Air, with shipping costs typically ranging from $35 to $100 per handgun, depending on location. For shipping questions or concerns, please contact Mike. We make every effort to keep shipping costs as low as possible.

We only ship to FFL dealers. All online buyers who require shipping must provide a valid FFL license to Girard Auction within 7 days of the auction. FFLs can be emailed to [email protected]. It is the buyer’s responsibility to provide this documentation—Girard Auction will not contact you to obtain it. All firearms and ammunition are shipped via UPS. Black powder firearms and BB guns do not require an FFL transfer and may be shipped directly to the buyer. We are not licensed to ship outside the United States and will not do so under any circumstances. All postage, handling, and insurance costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Pistols and revolvers are shipped UPS Next Day Air, with costs typically ranging from $35 to $100 per handgun, depending on location. Long guns generally cost $40 to $75 to ship.
